JOSM (java openstreetmap) is easier to use than I thought. I figured it out last night after class and this am.
I encourage you to download it. There is a way to have a Yahoo image under the map as you edit so you can see where things should go. See example below. I can show people if you would like to know more.

Is it a plugin that brings in Yahoo Maps as background in JOSM? Have looked on the web and as yat found nothing on how to do it.

Install is easy, just follow these directions:

With versions greater than 277, you can easily install plugins from within JOSM.
1. Start JOSM, open the preferences window (Edit->Preferences) and select the plugins tab.
2. Click on “Get more plugins” to download the list of available plugins.
3. Check the plugins you want installed.
4. Click the accept button. All new plugins should start downloading and installing.
5. Restart JOSM.
