Hi all,
In the spirit of crowd consciousness and collective wisdom let me throw my
two cents in the pot for the grading of the collective geographic Monday
evening milieu. I sincerely believe that when we bring our readings to class
we should also bring seperate hand or typewritten lists for each reading we are
assigned. This in no way is a paper, but a list of one line comments (or more)
that we can refer to in the discussion. After class we sign these lists and turn
them in for grading however the professor sees fit. Secondly may I suggest the
class splitting into four or five mapping groups and each group involve itself in
one aspect of on campus mapping using open source mapping software.
Whatever grade the group receives on its projects at the end of this
semester will constitute a percentage of that team member’s individual
grade.
I’m only a piece of this class puzzle if you all think these ideas are all wet it
won’t hurt my feelings one bit. Being in a blog is kind of like a guy sitting in a
”dunking booth” at a state fair. The guy in the booth will say things
to the crowd to get them to throw baseballs at the dunking lever so he can
fall into the tank of water. So go ahead and throw those baseballs!

I like these ideas… I think bringing in a list of comments, thoughts, questions, etc. about the readings is a good idea because it will help to get the discussions going…grading these however, not so sure about that, though I guess it does indicate a level of participation…
small group (or entire class because we are a small group) maps would be fun! I’d love to take a GPS out into “the field” to map a neighborhood or area near campus…the political contribution maps were neat, I wonder if we could map ethnic “pockets” or neighborhoods where certain groups tend to gravitate…or maybe ethnic (or vegetarian friendly) restaraunts around town… =)
